Resident: use the society photo gallery

The gallery keeps photographs from society events in one organised place — visible to residents, still there next year, and not filling everyone's phone storage the way a WhatsApp dump does.

Before you start

• Signed in with a claimed flat in your society
• The event has an album (ask the organisers if not)

Viewing photos

Open /gallery. Albums are listed by event and date.

The gallery is residents only. There is no public link, and it is not visible to search engines.

Uploading photos

1. Open the album for the event.
2. Tap Add photos and select from your phone.
3. Upload.

Several residents can contribute to the same album, so it does not depend on whoever had the best camera.

Please curate. Thirty good photographs are worth more than four hundred near-duplicates, and the album stays usable. Pick your best and upload those.

Albums usually have an upload window of about a week after the event, so they get finished rather than trickling on for months.

Before you upload: consent

This is the part worth taking seriously.

• Photographs of children need parental consent. Do not upload pictures of other people's children unless you know their parents are happy with it. If in doubt, do not.
• Never caption a child with their full name. A face in an album is one thing; a named child is a different exposure entirely.
• Do not upload anyone who looked uncomfortable being photographed, or unflattering candid shots of individuals.
• Nothing taken through a window into someone's flat.
• Nothing commercial — the gallery is not a place to advertise a vendor.

The test a moderator uses: would this resident be happy their neighbours are looking at this? Apply the same test before you upload.

Asking for a photo to be removed

If a photo of you or your child is in an album and you would rather it was not, ask a moderator or your committee. It will be removed, same day, and you do not have to give a reason.

This applies to every photo of you, not just one — if you would prefer not to appear in the gallery at all, say so.

What not to expect

• The gallery is not for personal albums. It is for society events.
• It is not a security tool. If you need images for a security matter, that is CCTV and a completely different process — talk to your committee.
• Do not repost to public social media. Photos shared inside the society were shared on that understanding. The society's Instagram page is a separate decision and needs consent from the people shown.

Privacy

Albums are scoped to your society and require sign-in. There are no public share links. Uploads and removals are recorded, so a takedown is a documented action.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload photos of other people's children? Only with the parents' consent, and never with the child's full name attached. If you are unsure, do not upload it.

How do I get a photo of myself removed? Ask a moderator or your committee. It will be removed the same day and you do not need to give a reason.

Can I share gallery photos on Instagram or WhatsApp? Not without consent from the people identifiable in them. Photos of children should not go to public social media at all.

Who can see the gallery? Residents of your society, signed in. There is no public link.

Can I upload photos from an event years ago? Ask your committee to create an album for it. It is genuinely useful — societies lose this history constantly.

How many photos should I upload? Your best few. Curated albums get looked at; four hundred near-duplicates do not.
