How to Connect a Society Bank Account for Online Payments
How to connect a society bank account for online payments
An admin connects the society's registered bank account from Finance & reports. Plinth sends the details directly to Cashfree Easy Split for bank and KYC verification. Online payments remain in test mode until Cashfree marks the society account active; Plinth never stores the full account number, PAN, GST document, or card and UPI credentials.
Before you start
- You must be an active society admin.
- Keep the society bank account number, IFSC, account-holder name, phone, email, and PAN ready.
- Keep a clear PAN document available as PDF, JPG, or PNG under 2 MB.
- Add GSTIN and a GST document when applicable to the society.
Connect the account
- Open Finance & reports from the admin area.
- Find Online payments and choose Connect bank account.
- Enter the account-holder name exactly as recorded by the bank.
- Enter the account number, IFSC, contact phone, email, PAN, and optional GSTIN.
- Review the details and choose Connect bank account.
- Plinth sends the submission to Cashfree and shows the current verification status.
The raw account number and tax identifiers are forwarded to Cashfree for verification and are not written to the Plinth database. Admins later see only the account-holder name, IFSC, masked last four digits, and provider status.
Respond to a document request
If the status is KYC review, Action required, or On hold, read the document status shown in the card.
- Choose Upload PAN or Upload GST.
- Select a PDF, JPG, or PNG under 2 MB.
- Wait for the confirmation that the document was sent to Cashfree.
- Choose Check status after Cashfree has reviewed it.
The file goes from the device to the onboarding function and then to Cashfree. Plinth does not keep a copy or store Cashfree's document path.
Understand each status
| Status | What the admin should do |
|---|---|
| Verifying | Wait, then check status |
| KYC review | Check document statuses and wait for review |
| Action required | Correct or replace the named document |
| Bank validation failed | Re-enter the account number and IFSC |
| Beneficiary creation failed | Check bank details and submit again |
| On hold | Upload requested documents or contact Cashfree support |
| Live | Residents can use Cashfree checkout |
| Disabled or unfamiliar status | Live collection stays off; investigate before retrying |
What makes the account go live?
Only Cashfree's ACTIVE status enables the live gateway. A signed vendor-status webhook updates
Plinth automatically. A manual Check status performs the same provider check. If Cashfree later
blocks, deletes, or holds the vendor, Plinth switches the society back to test mode.
Frequently asked questions
Can a resident connect the bank account? No. The onboarding function verifies active admin membership before accepting details or documents.
Does Plinth store our bank account number? No. It retains only the masked last four digits and operational status.
Why is the account still not live after document upload? Upload means Cashfree received the file. The account becomes live only after its review completes and the vendor status changes to active.
Can an admin manually mark the account verified? No. Client writes are blocked by Row Level Security, and the gateway-switch function is service-only.
